Fidelity Investments Expands Institutional SMA Product Line with Eight New Customized and Model Strategy Services for Wealth Management Firms
Asset management firm announces the expansion of its institutional Separately Managed Account (SMA) product line, adding six customized strategies and two model strategies for registered investment advisors (RIAs) and broker-dealer clients to enhance personalized investment service capabilities for high-net-worth clients.
The new strategies include an enhanced tax-managed equity strategy and a tax-managed fundamental equity strategy. Both strategies cover large-cap core, growth, and value investment directions, combining long-term active management capabilities with customized SMA service models.
The enhanced equity strategy employs a benchmark tracking framework to identify excess return opportunities through diversified alpha factors, while the fundamental equity strategy is based on a systematic portfolio construction process, combined with high-conviction stock selection.
The firm stated that these strategies are currently available to RIA firms through its customized SMA platform, which is integrated with brokerage platforms to assist wealth management firms in client onboarding, strategy customization, execution, and portfolio monitoring.
The head of wealth advisor management solutions distribution noted that as investors' demand for personalized investment experiences continues to grow, especially with the expanding ultra-high-net-worth client base, wealth advisors need more flexible and customized asset management tools. By combining active management, direct indexing, and factor strategies, the firm provides deeper portfolio customization and tax management capabilities for advisors.
Since launching its institutional customized SMA product line in 2022, the number of standardized SMA strategies offered has increased to 50, while also supporting advisors in combining multiple indices or strategies to form customized allocation plans based on client needs.
Additionally, two equity model SMA strategies have been launched, including the Institutional Blue-Chip Growth Select Model SMA and the Institutional Small-Cap Growth Select Model SMA, aimed at RIA and broker-dealer clients, and can be integrated into a Unified Managed Account (UMA) system for more comprehensive and tax-optimized investment management.
Currently, eight active equity model SMA strategies are available, covering U.S. equities, sectors, and international equity markets, along with five factor model strategies and two index model strategies offered through third-party platforms.
The firm stated that its SMA strategies are developed by its asset management division's quantitative research and investment team, which consists of over 250 quantitative analysts, data scientists, and technologists, leveraging long-accumulated proprietary data, systematic investment approaches, and artificial intelligence technology to uncover investment opportunities.
