Pokémon Card Index Rises by 22.8%, Bitcoin Falls by 20.7%
The Pokémon card index recorded a 22.8% increase over three months, outperforming the S&P 500, which only rose by 4.7%, while Bitcoin experienced a decline of 20.7%. Since the beginning of the year, certified cards have seen an overall increase of nearly 28%. This market, valued between $10 and $15 billion, attracts investors looking to diversify their portfolios amid fluctuations in financial markets. Sales of collectible cards are expected to increase by nearly 70% by 2025, surpassing $1 billion in revenue. Demand is fueled by nostalgia among young adults and the rarity of vintage pieces. Iconic sales, such as a Pikachu Illustrator card for $16.5 million, illustrate the valuation of this market. In 2025, eBay anticipates over $2.6 billion in card sales, while certification companies like PSA secure transactions. Tokenization initiatives on the blockchain are emerging to facilitate fractional ownership of collectibles. Despite risks related to liquidity and counterfeits, the valuation of certified cards remains supported by their rarity and cultural significance.
