Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke Considers Disabling Claude Code
Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke is considering disabling Claude Code within the company due to the fact that Claude Code only reads CLAUDE.md, while other tools can share AGENTS.md. The difference between Claude Code and AGENTS.md raises the risk of incorrect rules appearing in the code repository. Lütke hopes that Claude Code can also read AGENTS.md to simplify maintenance. Claude Code team member Thariq stated that they will improve the use of AGENTS.md but emphasized that Claude needs separate prompts, skills, and CLAUDE.md to optimize model performance. In response, Lütke believes that there should not be a need to maintain a separate entry for Claude. According to leaked Claude Code source code, Grok believes that CLAUDE.md can be directly replaced with AGENTS.md without significant architectural changes. The majority of comments support Lütke, arguing that it is unnecessary to retain two sets of standards and suggesting that AGENTS.md should be read by default, using CLAUDE.md only when necessary.
