Silicon Valley Investors Discuss the Impact of Democratic Victory on the AI Industry
On the night of the U.S. midterm elections, Silicon Valley podcast All-In featured a live discussion among tech investors about the potential impact of the Democratic victory on the AI industry. Host Chamath Palihapitiya stated that AI investment has become an important pillar of the U.S. economy, and the construction of data centers relies on power supply. If the Democrats impose restrictions on new data center construction in places like Texas, the AI industry may be affected. Host Jason Calacanis emphasized that the tech industry should proactively engage with the Democrats to collaborate on AI regulatory policies. He pointed out that the tech community's promotion of the potential for AI to lead to human extinction has exacerbated public fear. Regular guest Brad Gerstner believes that the Democratic victors want to have more say in AI regulation and do not intend to completely halt AI development. He estimated that among the new data center power capacity planned for 2027 in the U.S., about 10 to 15 GW may not be operational on schedule, but he remains optimistic about the growth of AI model companies, stating that Altimeter hopes to be one of the largest buyers during Anthropic's IPO.
