World ID by Sam Altman Available for Zoom and Banks
World, formerly known as Worldcoin, has launched a new identity verification for business Zoom calls. The World ID is now globally available for business Zoom customers and compares a previous scan, a recent selfie, and the live video feed to verify the identity of participants. To use this verification, users must register with World, starting with an eye scan. The application utilizes the Orb, which scans the iris and takes a photo of the face. During a Zoom call, the participant takes a new selfie, which is compared to the previous photo and the live image. If these match, a badge appears next to the participant, confirming that the person is real and not an AI deepfake. World is also targeting banks with a package that can verify if someone is truly present without needing to store identity documents. So far, no banks have been named as using the product, but design partners include Bain Capital and Pantera Capital. The World ID application is available in the Zoom Marketplace for business customers.
